Cultural Heritage PreventATive Preservation Program

Sea level rise, extreme weather events, warming temperatures, and other climate change manifestations present an urgent challenge for the preservation and protection of our cultural heritage. The “Cultural Heritage Preventative Preservation Program” in Data Experiences and Visualization Studio at Dartmouth College seeks to understand and collect data on the impacts of climate change for cultural heritage and to advance technologies that increase the potential for cultural resilience.

Preventative preservation can be defined as any measure that reduces the potential for, or prevents, damage. Working with Dartmouth students, staff, faculty and alumni, projects will work to create community-centered preventative preservation plans with the aim to inform various climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts.

This program is intended as a collaboration into knowledge sharing among the various disciplines affected by and working in cultural heritage protection, community agency, and climate change.
